Redemption Accomplished – Ruth 4

One man is trying to do the least he can, and by his actions he forfeits the opportunity to act in the Messianic role as a Redeemer. Boaz however is different, and accomplishes redemption. Through this Ruth is assured of a future and receives a new identity, as the wife of Boaz and a mother in Israel. An outsider to the covenant of grace has been brought in.

Chasing Down Redemption – Ruth 3

Wings of Refuge – Ruth 2:12

The beauty of the book of Ruth really starts to unfold in the second chapter with the introduction of Boaz and the role he plays. As a type of David, his great-grandson, he begins to restore the fortunes and bring redemption to a family in Israel. As a type of Christ, we see Boaz’s great generosity to a foreigner and are reminded that we too are “foreigners” and “aliens from the commonwealth of grace,” yet to us grace comes!

Faith, and Frowning Providences – Ruth 1

Christ never promised a life free from trials and difficulties. William Cowper refered to these as the “frowning providences” of God. In Ruth chapter 1, we see three people facing these “frowning providences.” Elimelech, in a spirit of distrust turns his back on the covenant God and redemption. Naomi’s decision making isn’t above reproach either. It is Ruth, one outside the covenant, who leads the way as she grasps hold in true faith to the God of redemption.
