Faith, and Frowning Providences

Christ never promised a life free from trials and difficulties. William Cowper refered to these as the "frowning providences" of God. In Ruth chapter 1, we see three people facing these "frowning providences." Elimelech, in a spirit of distrust turns his back on the covenant God and redemption. Naomi's decision making isn't above reproach either. It is Ruth, one outside the covenant, who leads the way as she grasps hold in true faith to the God of redemption.
