I Am Slow of Speech

This passage reminds us that most of what God does directly or through us he does through his Word.  Moses was aware of weakness when it came to speaking, but God knew of that before he called him to lead his people out of Israel.  The same is the case with us.  God knows all about our weaknesses and yet he call us to serve him because he is not hindered by our weaknesses.

The Gospel and Baptism

On the day of Pentecost, Peter preached this sermon explaining the reason for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.  Peter's sermon focused on Jesus Christ as the exalted Lord.  When the people who heard his message were convicted of their sin and asked what they could do, Peter urged them to repent and be baptized to receive the forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit.  Baptism can only be appreciated when we understand something of the glory of the exalted Lord Jesus and the seriousness of our sins.

God Summarizes Israel's (and Our) Calling (1): Their Call to Worship God

This is the first of three sermons on Exodus 19:3-6.  It is a summary of the kind of response that God requires from his people to his grace in saving them.  God tells his people that he requires them to obey his commands and to keep his covenant.  When we look at the details of what requires in the 10 commandments and in the laws in the rest of the book of Exodus we learn that the first thing God requires of his people in response to their salvation is worship.
